In order to build a Wooden Chest, we need to figure out what we want the chest lid to look like.
You could build a chest with a flat lid and not have to worry about calculating any angles. But what do you do if you want to build a chest that looks like a Treasure Chest?
You have to compute what angle you need to cut and how many pieces of wood you want to use. The more pieces you use, the more round the chest lid will look.
I have a friend who is a wood crafting hobbyist who loves to build treasure chests out of wood. He started building chests and wanted to figure out the angles of each piece of wood for the lid.
The more segments of wood for the lid will make it appear more rounded. As you can see from the above picture, the number pieces used give it a Very slight sectional appearance. Adding more pieces of wood would make it appear rounder, but also increases the difficulty. This chest above has already been sanded and is ready for the staining.
Finding that exact angle by hand is difficult, so he asked me if there was a way to make it easier for him. We worked together to create this excel sheet that calculates a way to create a lid for your treasure chest. You decide the dimension and angles according to the number of pieces of wood you want to use and the height of of lid that you desire.
